It was a long, slippery trip south to Cincinnati, but our boys made it safely to The Great American Sports Cafe just in time for The Queen City Beard and Moustache Society’s 3rd meeting held on January 11th, 2011. Co-founders Thomas “Maurice” Smith and Stephen Alexander, along with Archduke Bryan Winget made the trip to formally announce the formation of Beard Team Ohio!
But first, we had to catch up with some of our old bearded brethren that we hadn't seen since Beards of Charity in November. Naturally, first up was Mr. Adam Black himself, founder of Queen City Beard and Moustache Society. We also got to chat with Moustache (Styled) 1st place winner and Full Beard (Styled) 3rd place winner James “Pnut” Kahles, which was a real treat. Other distinguished guests in attendance included Matt Bischoff and his lovely wife Tessa, founder of The Whiskerinas (USA Woman's Beard and Moustache Society) and 3rd place winner in the Most Realistic Fake Beard category. Amidst the fabulous facial hair was Fake Beard (Most Realistic) 1st place winner and Whiskerinas member, Miss Stephanie Bien.
Also in attendance was Mr. Mike Scanlan, the man who gave Jack Passion a run for his money at Beards of Charity and Full Beard (Natural) 2nd place winner. We where very excited to see all of these wonderful people again, and to become acquainted with a few fresh faces. With all of these great Beard and Moustache clubs in one place, it was the perfect time to introduce the idea of Beard Team Ohio. After a quick bite and some good conversation, Thomas addressed the crowd. He spoke of equality and the unification, and Ohio's standing in the beard and moustache circuit, capping it off with the presentation of the brand new Beard Team Ohio t-shirts.
Mr. Kahles also spoke that night about something very near and dear to his heart, The St. John Passion Play, one of America's longest running plays, established in 1918. They are in desperate need of actors, stagehands, sound and light techs; you name it, they need it. After purchasing some sweet Queen City Society merch, we said our goodbyes and headed home. A great night among great company, we thank the Queen City Beard and Moustache Society for having us out, and for all of their support. We will be looking forward to the next time we meet up with these fine folks.
